A name for a Nameless country

lectures: 613

If I ask you the name of the people who speak Catalan, you will easily tell Catalan. And if I ask you the name of the people living in Catalonia you will say Catalan as well. Easy, right? However, there is a problem. You will call Catalan to people that is not from Catalonia. Valencia and Mallorca are two other territories where the inhabitants speak Catalan as a local language but they are not from Catalonia as most of the people know Catalonia. There are more territories like that! Something similar happens with Spanish and English, and nobody get confused. But with Catalan is different. The main reason is because the Catalans have not an own State.

To avoid misunderstandings the Catalan people use the name Països Catalans

(Catalan Countries) to refer to the territories where people speak Catalan. But there is a new problem translating Països Catalans into English as «Catalan Countries» is a name that makes no sense in English.

For that reason I suggest a poll to suggest a different name for the Catalan Countries or reinforce the one exisitng.

If you want to add any name to the poll, please don’t hesitate to write as a comment. In a short period of time, it will be included*

*I reserve the right to don’t publish any name if it is not respectful

Catalan Independence Bill moves forward in the Catalan Parliament

lectures: 952

The Catalan People is demonstrating step by step that the
top ten list of nations aspiring to be independent published by TIME magazine is not real. Now in the sphere of the Parliament of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, one of the three regions part the called Catalan Countries, a bill about the Independence moves forward. This is only the first step of a series that will conduct eventually to the self determination from Spain.
The bill was proposed by the new independentist party leaded by Joan Laporta, the former Barça president, and got the support of Government party, the nationalist Convergència i Unió.

The Catalans are getting more international recognition in the few last years and specially since the Catalan Parliament banned bull fighting in Catalonia. Only two weeks ago, a mass email campaign to Time magazine because the top ten list of nations aspiring to be independent was impressively followed by 7,000 people. This campaign, started by a Californian blogger, Alexis Vizcaino, aimed to recognized the activism of the Catalan Countries towards their Independence.

Non-violent actions towards the Independence

lectures: 1123

I don’t like to talk about statistics of campaigns still alive. But I’m going to do an exception to talk about the campaign I started 2 days ago.

In 2 days, more than 850 people sent emails to TIME magazine using this blog to demonstrate how active are the Catalan people about the independence, and the most importance in a non-violent way. Sometimes independentism is seen as a radical movement related to violence. Catalan independence movement has a lot of problems but violence.

There has not been a reaction as far as I know on TIME magazine, but there has been another step forward of the Catalan independentism towards the education of the US citizens (Artistdogboy from Washington wrote a nice post about that just yesterday); again peacefully. I insist on that fact because sometimes international eyes only see violence in TV, and only remember violence in their brain. Keeping the world’s eyes without violence is difficult. As an example the list of TIME magazine, trigger of the whole story. As I like to say, Catalan independence will be democratic or won’t be. But it needs a double effort on education.

In addition to that, The Economist wrote about the new Spanish Senate bill which allows to speak the official languages of the Spain in the Senate. I should mention that comments in the Economist publication is quite interesting.

I invite you from San Francisco (California) to follow the future non-violent actions of the Catalan People trying to get the independence.

Email campaign to TIME magazine: «We do think the Catalan people will get the independence»

lectures: 2935

TIME magazine has published an article on the top 10 nations aspiring to achieve their own independent state. Unfortunately, the Catalan Countries are not mentioned, apparently because most people outside of Spain, France or Italy do not know much about the Catalan independence movement.

Therefore we believe the internationalization and education of people around the world about the Catalan independence movement is of crucial importance. Right now we are contacting TIME magazine to let them know about the oversight in their article.

We encourage you to write a personal email to letters@time.com or use the form letter that can be sent directly from our blog Whispers From The US, Internationalization of Catalan Cause to Time magazine.

The Catalan supporters have reacted impressively. In only 24h almost 500 emails have been sent already to the editors of TIME magazine explaining the situation of the Catalan Countries.

10 golden rules to buy a second-hand car in the USA

lectures: 3429
  1. Buying from a dealer or a directly from the owner? In dealers, in general, you should be careful as they know how to make business. They are professionals. Take care also with individuals selling cars, specially if you don’t know enough about mechanics.
  2. Where to find second-hand cars? if you want to buy it from a dealer but also from an owner, you will find very useful Craigslist.
  3. Ask for the VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number). The VIN number is that each vehicle throughout its life (the ID of the vehicle). This number will allow you to do a vehicle history report throughout CARFAX (approximately $25). Some web-pages allow to get some information for free, but only paying you will find a detailed report (never completely though). Examples of sites where you can find free reports: FreeVin Check, National Insurance Crime Bureau. Llegeix més »
